My name is Robert Hanchet I graduated with a Foundation Degree in Horticulture from Writtle College (with Distinction) in 2010.
In 2011, I was head gardener at the historically important gardens Easton Lodge in Essex.
I aim to produce interesting layouts, to give depth and variety, and am especially interested in the ways plants are combined together for contrasting or harmonious colours and textures.
Expert plant knowledge
Plants for a purpose
Your garden is unique, or at least it should be. It should contain plants you like, plants adapted to the site, plants that have local or personal connections.
I do not do 'design by numbers' - the same set of plants trotted out for each garden.
Hand drawn plans
Artistic approach
Naturalistic Planting - Annual and perennial meadows, mixed perennials and grasses Meadow-style planting
Mediterranean Style - drought-tolerant plants.
Bold colourful planting - either tender exotics, or hardy plants
Japanese inspired gardens - the opposite of this. Mininamlist, with emphasis on foliage and limited colour pallete.
Gardens with a theme or flavour - colour scheme, etc
Herbs and edible plants - formal vegetable gardens, or use of edibles plants within general planting.
Sensory & Healing Gardens - Planting to appeal to all the senses - movement, sound, touch, scent, texture and colour. Uplifting colours or calming greens.
Formal Gardens - symmetry, clipped shapes, perhaps balnces with some soft planting.
Historic Houses and Period Gardens- gardens and planting schemes for particular points in history
Wildlife Gardens - plants for birds, bees, butterflies and moths.
Traditional English Garden - roses, hollyhocks etc.
Cottage Garden
